Downtown Brewery Ltd, a genuine craft brewery located in Helsinki, fired its kettles for the first time in early spring 2000, not least to fulfill the dream cherished for years by company's managing director Mr. Kari Likovuori.

First releases were three different versions of Finnish Sahti (product page in Finnish), which were amply acclaimed at The Helsinki Beer Festival in April 2000.

In September 2000 followed the release of the first beers on tap in some of the town's most renowned taverns (availability in Finnish). Mr. Fish - Double Stout

Customized beer is our business

Dynamic and flexible supply of customized house beers, unique, seasonal or regular ones, certainly does not require a brewery in the tavern.

Downtown Brewery Ltd with the flexibility bestowed by small batch sizes (between 500 and 800 liters) will meet the requirements of the customer in quick succession. In other words, specify the beer you fancy and let us brew it for you.

The men behind the beers

Unlike many other craft breweries, we have, instead of one brewer, two experienced brewers, a composition of three notions of beer & brewing at customer's disposal. This is, as we believe, our strength and, certainly customer's too.

Mr. Kari Likovuori, our managing director, is a renowned beer personality known as home brewer, veteran beer consumer league activist, beer lecturer and beer writer. Furthermore, Mr. Likovuori is also regarded as an outstanding authority in Belgian beers (Trappists and Lambics in particular!) and brewing tradition.

Mr. Ari Järmälä is a renowned veteran home brewer with more than 20 years of experience, awarded thrice consecutively in 1996-1998 as "the Finnish homebrewer of the year". Mr. Järmälä is also recognized as the author of "Kotipanimomestarin Käsikirja", a home brewer's handbook in Finnish language. This authoritative book has gained great popularity among Finnish home brewers.

Meet us at the brewery

We offer intimate brewery tours upon order for our beerloving friends. A tour takes 1-2 hours and includes introduction to the ingredients of beer, the main principles of brewing process and brewing equipment combined with cozy tasting of our beers along with free discussion of anything related to beer and brewing.
